Migraines Are Not A Headache Gone Bad

The is a 1 CE event that will be held over Zoom.  Once registered, a link will be emailed to you two days before the event.  If you did not receive the link, please contact admin@npalliancealabama.org.  In order to claim the CE credit, you MUST submit an evaluation at the completion of the event.  The event is open to NPAA members only.

 Objectives:

1.) Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to: differentiate headaches verses migraines

2.) Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to: Properly assess and order diagnostics to determine underlying etiology

3.) Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to: treat migraines with proper pharmacology treatment with complementary therapies

Summary:

This presentation will provide insight into how to differentiate a headache verses a migraine, along with proper assessment and diagnostic methods to rule out any additional underlying etiologies that can mimic a headache or migraine. Understanding proper assessment and ordering the appropriate diagnostics aids in improving patient outcomes and quality of life while reducing morbidity and mortality. Upon arriving at the proper diagnosis of migraines, identifying and prescribing appropriate pharmacology treatments with the aid of complementary therapies provide the most beneficial preventative and rescue treatment for individuals suffering with migraines. Providing this educational opportunity for healthcare providers will reduce misdiagnosis of other possible detrimental underlying etiologies that can reduce quality and quantity of life, along with enhance safe effective and efficient care with proper diagnosis and treatment. 

Speaker Bio:

Brandy S. Young is a doctoral prepare advanced family practice nurse with a focus in neurology. She has had many clinical and academic positions that have allowed her to gain insight and knowledge into providing healthcare for individuals in her community and surrounding communities. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Auburn University Montgomery, her master’s in nursing with a focus on the family from Troy University and her doctorate from South University. Her most recent career experience includes working at Neurology Consultants of Montgomery where she assesses, diagnoses and treats migraines on a daily basis.
